We make plans on how we are going to celebrate Christmas. Decorations, gifts, food and travel can be included. From now to Christmas Day we are on a mission to fulfill our plans. John the Baptist was called by God to prepare the people around him for Jesus to begin his ministry. His goal was that they with repentance be ready to receive Jesus. Saint Matthew is inspired to tell us about this important task. The Ministry of John the Baptist, Matthew 3:1-12

Some stories start by revealing what happens at the conclusion. The couple are getting married, the murderer is convicted and sent to jail, or the team wins the championship. This doesn't spoil story but leaves enough clues to actually spur interest in reading more.
Our Lord Jesus reveals to Saint John what to expect at the end of the world. He certainly gives us enough information. His words also point us toward the beginning of life in heaven. We definitely want to know more. The End and The Beginning, Revelation 21: 1-6

What are you waiting for? Family coming to your house for Thanksgiving or Christmas. A vacation or retirement. While you are waiting how are you preparing? Planning the meal or cleaning the house for the holiday. Looking for retirement properties or VRBO rentals for the trip. Jesus prepares us for the end of the world by teaching us to be prepared for His return. He uses this word to get our attention, so we are ready: "Watch!" Mark 13:32-37

Someone we love who lives far away has promised to come for the Thanksgiving holiday. We look forward to spending time with them before they have to return home, Jesus promised to return to end the world and take believers to heaven. We will spend eternity enjoying heaven with Him. Saint Paul tells us why we can be certain this will happen and how the events of the last day will take place. "So shall we be forever with the Lord" 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
